Take the Pith
"Take the Pith" was created from wood and found objects. I wanted to pay homage to the late, great Robin Williams. He was the fabric of creativity in his own artistic genre. I have combined the Easter Island Head from Night at the Museum ("Hey Dum Dum you give me gum gum") and Van Pelt (the hunter) from Jumanji. A pith hat is a specific type of safari hat worn by Jonathan Hyde (Van Pelt) who also plays Robin Williams' (Alan's) father in Jumanji. I thought Robin would appreciate the ironic humour of Take the Pith – i.e. don’t forget the safari hat.
This piece is an ensemble of reframed items that would otherwise go to landfill. A number of recycled items were particularly used when creating the binoculars and the pith hat.
